Privacy policy
The short version
The calculators run entirely in your browser. The grades and scores you type are never sent to this site, never stored by us, and never seen by us. Sharing links encode your inputs in the URL only on your device, and only if you choose to copy them.
Who is responsible for this site
SyllabusCalc is built, published and operated by one individual, who is the data controller for the purposes of the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation and the responsible business for the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act. There is no company behind it and no other party with access to anything it collects. Privacy questions, requests and complaints go to contact@syllabuscalc.com and are answered by us. If you are in the EU or the UK and want a postal address for a formal request, ask at that address and we will provide one.
What we collect
By default, nothing. This site has no accounts, no sign-up, no comments, no forms that submit anywhere, and no first-party data collection. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your device. The web host that delivers the pages keeps standard server logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp, user agent, referring page) for security and operations, as virtually all web servers do; those logs are retained for a short operational period, are not linked to any identity, and are not used to profile visitors.
Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-RE16EKV7FG). How it runs depends on where you are. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the tag loads with Consent Mode defaults set to denied, and this site shows no consent prompt, so there GA4 sets no cookies and receives only cookieless, consent-less pings. Everywhere else, analytics storage is allowed by default: GA4 sets cookies in your browser and collects usage information — pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, and how you arrived — so that we can see which tools are worth building more of. Google is an independent controller for that data; its handling is described in Google's privacy policy and in how Google uses information from sites that use its services. Outside those regions you can decline it by blocking or clearing this site's cookies in your browser; no calculator depends on them. GA4 does not offer an IP-anonymization switch: it truncates IP addresses before storage as standard behaviour, and this page does not claim more than that.
Advertising
This site currently shows no advertising, carries no ad code, and has no ads.txt file. It is written to accept advertising later, and this is what that will mean.
This site may display advertising served by Google, including through Google AdSense. When it does:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies — including the DoubleClick cookie set from
doubleclick.net— enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet. - Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads here and may likewise use cookies, web beacons or similar technologies to measure and target advertising.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at Google Ads Settings (also reachable as My Ad Center). You can opt out of personalized advertising by many other vendors at optout.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance), optout.networkadvertising.org (Network Advertising Initiative), or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe.
- Where the law requires it, a consent management platform will ask for your choice before any advertising cookie is set, and will let you change or withdraw that choice later. Until you allow it, the consent-mode defaults already shipped on every page keep
ad_storage,ad_user_dataandad_personalizationdenied. - This policy's effective date will change when advertising is introduced, and this section will be rewritten in the present tense on the day it becomes true.
Cookies and local storage
This site sets no cookies of its own. It stores nothing in local storage or session storage. The only cookies that could ever appear are those set by the services named above — analytics, and later advertising. Analytics cookies are set by default outside the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and not inside them, as described under Analytics; advertising cookies only after consent permits them. You can clear cookies and site data at any time in your browser settings, and blocking them entirely does not break any calculator on this site, because none of them depend on storage.
Third-party services
Pages load two font families from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests font files from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com and Google receives the request, including your IP address; Google states that it does not use Google Fonts requests to build advertising profiles. Pages are served as static files by a commercial web host, which processes the server logs described above on our behalf. Beyond those — and beyond analytics and advertising when and if they are enabled — no third-party resource loads on this site: no fonts from anywhere else, no tag managers, no embedded videos, no social widgets, no comment platform, no chat widget, no A/B testing, no session recording, no fingerprinting.
Children and younger students
This site is a general-audience reference tool, and it is not directed to children. That answer needs more than one line, because grade calculators are obviously of interest to school-age readers: the high school GPA calculator and the class rank calculator are written for students aged roughly fourteen to eighteen, and a younger student could plainly land on one.
So the site is built to be safe for that traffic regardless of who arrives. It asks for no personal information, has no account, no upload, no message field, and no way to submit anything at all; the numbers typed into a calculator stay in the browser and reach no server. We knowingly collect no personal information from anyone, and we have no means of collecting any from a child even if we wanted to. If you believe a child has somehow provided personal information through this site, write to contact@syllabuscalc.com and we will delete whatever is found.
Because part of the audience is likely to be under the age of consent for data processing, no personalized advertising will be enabled here until we have taken a considered position on child-directed and mixed-audience treatment — including whether to mark the site or its school-age pages for restricted, non-personalized ad serving — and until this section records that decision. Serving personalized ads to a middle-schooler working out a GPA is not something we intend to do by omission.
Your choices and rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is usually nothing to access, correct, or delete, and a request will most often be answered with exactly that. Where consent tooling is present, you can change or withdraw consent at any time through it.
If the GDPR applies to you, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, the right to withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing already carried out, and the right to complain to your national supervisory authority. Where analytics or advertising runs, the lawful basis for it is your consent; for server logs it is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
If the CCPA or CPRA applies to you, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information and receive no money for sharing it. When advertising is enabled, the consent tooling described above is where you exercise the opt-out, and a global privacy control signal sent by your browser will be honoured.
To exercise any of these rights, or to ask a question about them, write to contact@syllabuscalc.com. We will respond within the period the applicable law allows, and we will not charge you or ask you to create an account to do it.
Data transfers, retention and security
The site is served from infrastructure that may be located outside your country, and the third parties named above — Google in particular — process data internationally under their own published transfer safeguards. We retain no personal data ourselves; server logs are kept by the host for a short operational period and then discarded. All pages are served over HTTPS.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and material changes — the introduction of advertising above all — will be described here in plain language rather than folded in quietly.
